First impressions and settling into a new routine
Exactly one week ago, I finally arrived at Finca Sol y Valle, and let me tell you, the journey down to the farm was an adventure in itself. Picture a steep, bumpy hill where every step was a test of balance. Right away, I could tell life here was going to be different—and I was ready for it.
The moment I stepped onto the farm, I was greeted with warmth and lots of smiles. Despite my nerves about adapting to a new routine, everyone’s friendly faces immediately made me feel at ease. It wasn’t long before I found myself settling into the farm's rhythm. Early mornings are now my new normal; the sun serves as my alarm clock, waking me up just in time to soak in the tranquillity before the day’s work begins.
Speaking of routines, living with a group in a shared space has turned out to be more fun than I expected. There’s an easygoing camaraderie as we navigate our daily schedule of tasks. Every week, we rotate tasks, so one day you might be working in the garden, and the next you’re building something, or lending a hand in the kitchen. It’s a combination of hard work and learning new skills. I personally did not know anything about gardening or building before I arrived, but luckily there is always someone to lend a hand, and after only a week, I have already learned quite a lot.
On my first day, I got a tour of the farm. Walking through the gardens, I felt a surge of excitement. The land is stunning, and it's clear that everything here thrives with care and hard work. There’s a wonderful sense of community that runs through every corner of the farm.
Meals have become one of my favourite parts of the day. Before we eat, we gather around and sing a short song, expressing our gratitude for the food. It’s a simple ritual, but it creates a sense of togetherness and makes each meal feel special. And the food here is something else—fresh, locally sourced, and unbelievably tasty. Every bite tastes like it was made with love and intention, which, here at Finca Sol y Valle, it absolutely is.
Adjusting to life on the farm has had its challenges, but already, I can feel the positive effects of this new routine. I’m learning to adapt, embrace change, and appreciate the beauty of working alongside others toward a common goal. I can’t wait to see how this journey continues to unfold!
